Paradise Inn – Mount Rainier

Project details

The lobby at the Paradise Inn at Mount Rainier receives thousands of visitors each year, providing a place to rest, take in the views, read a book or meet new friends. As a result, its furniture and finishes get lots of use. The Interior Design team at Clark Design Group was brought on board to replace the lobby furniture, as well as carpeting throughout the Inn.

Paradise Inn is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a major component of the Paradise Historic District. It is also part of the Mount Rainier National Historic Landmark District, which recognizes the park’s inventory of National Park Service rustic architecture, and encompasses the entire park. As such, it was important that new furnishings be in keeping with the historic nature of the building and work with some treasured existing pieces.

Based on the research of CDG’s historic preservation specialist, the team selected a simple palate of handcrafted wooden furniture, upholstered in both leather and period fabrics. The first half of the furniture will be delivered in October 2016. Due to high snow levels, the second delivery won’t be made until May 2017. By next summer, the Inn will be refreshed and ready to welcome visitors from around the world.
