Theodora

Located in North Seattle’s Ravenna neighborhood, this Northwest Modern heavy-timber building was designed by Grant, Copeland and Chervenek. Originally constructed by Volunteers of America in 1965, it served low income and elderly disabled persons. A congregate living facility, it contained 113 sleeping units and common kitchen, dining and amenity spaces on a rare 64,000 sf lot.

The substantial renovation of the existing building combines existing units, creating 52 studio, 1- and 2-bedroom dwelling units. An additional 36 units will be added to the south of each building wing. The new design pays homage to the modern roots of the existing building, while appearing very much a new modern addition. The two buildings are connected by elevated walkways, enclosed in glass.
