The Publix

  • Original Publix Hotel

Project details

Located within both Seattle’s International Special Review District and the National Register Chinatown Historic District, the Publix Hotel was constructed in 1928 as a rooming house for workers employed at Rainier Heat & Power Company. Clark Design Group provided architectural, historic preservation and interior design services for the renovation of this historic hotel building, as well as a new, complementary addition.

The entire Publix redevelopment project contains 125 market rate apartments, with 12,000 sq ft of ground floor retail and 28 parking stalls. A valuable piece of the historic district, its rehabilitation is critical to the revitalization of the neighborhood.

CDG submitted a Historic Preservation Tax Credit Application to the Washington State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service. In addition, an application was submitted for the King County Special Property Tax Valuation, freezing the property tax at its pre-renovation rate.
